Does a full VM restore replace vSphere Snapshots?
I need to take a snapshot of a VM prior to full restoration. Will the restore replace or mess with that snapshot?
Thanks!
Thanks!

Restore will delete original VM's virtual disks along with any snapshot. Since snapshots are dependent on particular base disk state, there is no use in keeping it around without the corresponding base disk. Thanks!

If you want to have sort of pre-restore independent copy of a particular VM, just create one-time backup of it, using VeeamZIP functionality. Thanks.

Re: Does a full VM restore replace vSphere Snapshots?
Hi Vladimir, would the VeeamZIP function be used to take a final backup of a VM that is going to be decommissioned for example? Or is there a way I can create a backup job to do a final backup?
Thanks
Thanks

The two best advantages of VeeamZIP are exactly these. Because it's a "one shot" full backup, the resulting backup file is completely independent, and is not affected by retention policies, it can be stored as long as you don't delete it.
