We also have this update deployed internally in the lab, no issues, so consider it is supported.

[MERGED] Need advice, vsphere/esxi upgrades from 5.5?

Post by ndebaggis »

We currently run vcenter 5.5 with esxi 5.5 hosts. Veeam 9.5 update 1. Our current SAN is HP MSA P2000 G3 FC but soon to become a 3PAR 8200 FC. Backups have been stable for us in our current environment. Looking for guidance on what the most stable upgrade path for our Vmware vcenter and hosts will be? 5.5 to 6.0?, 5.5 to 6.5?, stay on 5.5? I'm tentative to upgrade knowing there have been many CBT issues with 6.0 and 6.5 in the past. Thanks for any input!

6.0 seems quite stable now and hasn't given us any grief for some time. I'm not brave enough to go to 6.5 yet and will likely wait for at least 6.5U1 (we're also on a 3PAR 8200 FC).

Be aware you can't currently migrate from 6.0U3 to 6.5 as the migration tool doesn't yet support 6.0U3 as a source since it came out later than 6.5. Going to 6 will bring in a number of fairly sizable benefits. The snapshot commit improvements being what I consider the largest one

@PTide & DaveWatkins, thanks for the input. It's looking like 6.0U3 is the way we're headed.

Been running 6.5 since release. I'm on the latest builds and haven't had an issue
