Exchange/VNXe Backup (Cannot see DBs and Log drives)

Post by niles.foster »

So this is something that was given to me. Awh, how nice!

Exchange 2010 SP3 is running on ESX 5.0. Exchange boot volumes are VMDKs but the the DBs and Logs are not. The DBs and Log drives are hosted with direct pass through a NIC (on ESX host) to the VNXe via iSCSI. So what are the steps to get Veeam (build 8.0.0.2084) to see/backup thos DBs and Log drives?

Thank you in advance,
Niles

It's not possible, all drives must be VMDK.

NB You could install Veeam EndPoint on the VM and use that to backup the attached LUNs to Veeam Backup repository.

I would also evaluate the possibility to migrate those volumes to proper vmdk, so that you can properly leverage Veeam support for Exchange. Aside from few clustering technology, I don't really see these days any reason to keep RDM volumes in a virtualized environment.
