Export Backups from Repository to external/Archive location

Post by umenz »

Hi,

my BackupCopy Repository is running out of Space, I have tried to Export a Backup but the Wizard use the same Location (with no free space).
How can I Export to another Location ?

Thanks

Hi Ulrich, this is how Export functionality currently works by design - the exported backup is saved to the same repository where the source restore points reside. Export to another repository is not possible.

Hi Ulrich,

From what you are trying to achieve, it looks like File Copy option would do the trick in your case.
You can create a new File Copy Job, choose the folder with all the backups on Source wizard and copy it to whatever destination folder you like
on the servers managed by your VBR.
Then, you can leverage Import Backup and choose .vbm file from the folder you copied backups to. It will automatically
import the info about all restore points copied and add it to VBR configuration database.
Thus, you will be able to manage backup copies from the new repository, finding them in Home > Backups > Disk (Imported).

Best regards,
Oleg

Hi Foggy, sounds like an improvement for the future but helps not yet.
Hi Oleg, thanks for the description, this a possible Solution for me.

but i can see in the Repository Files with ...Y.vbk and ..Q.vbk moving the Files manually don´t break the chain ? Are the Fullbackups Independent it was ok for me.

Those are GFS restore points (Y for Yearly, Q for Quarterly, etc.). These are independent self-contained restore points and can be safely moved to other location to release space.

thanks, yes i will move the VBK Files.
I see older daily vib Files between 365 and 700 Days old, but our Policy is to store only 365 Restorepoints in the Copy Job, think somthing is going wrong and waist the space.

Think we should start a new repository from vault.

Do you have the 'Read from source...' check box enabled? In this case backup copy switches to forward incremental mode, so having more restore points on disk than configured is expected.
