Export GFS yearly media set

Post by adam900331 »

Hy.

What happend when I configure the yearly media set in the GFS media pool to enable Append backup files to incomplete tapes checkbox:
https://helpcenter.veeam.com/docs/backu ... ml?ver=110

In addition set the yearly media set retention for 5 year.

And set export the yearly meadia set, because i want to take to offline palce the tape:
https://helpcenter.veeam.com/docs/backu ... ml?ver=110

What will happen in the next year when archive another full backup as yearly backup? Will be use the same tape to continue the archive which has wrote one full backup?

Hi Adam

Export: Closes the media set and prepares the tapes to be taken out of the library
Appending: Writes backups to tapes which are online and are not closed

A closed media set shouldn't be reused by Veeam. When the next yearly job run starts, it will ask for a new tape.
I also suggest to leave appending disabled for yearly GFS backups. It's the default.
Most likely you want to have an independent tape copy of your yearly backup. Second, if you write multiple years to the same tape, you won't be able to remove a single yearly backup after 5 years. You can only erase the entire tape.
