Extend a ReFS volume

Post by lowlander »

Hi,

we have a disk with ReFS and NTFS partition configured. The space after the NTFS partition is contiguous space so we can extend this volume. As a result extending the ReFS partition we have convert this disk from basic to dynamic.

Can we convert the ReFS partition online to dynamic without impact and is this a supported configuration for a scale out backup repository ?

thanks 😉

Hello, no concerns from the Veeam functionality side here. However, I don't know if this is something Microsoft themselves support or recommend. Thanks!

Just know that Windows Volume Extensions have very unpredictable performance patterns based on our scale out testing. It is at best a space enhancement not a performance enhancement. But we saw in our testing even lower performance when big files process lots of data. This is for example the reason why we do not use it in our appliances like Nutanix MINE.
