Feature Req - Change Veeam temporary snapshot name
We'd like the ability to edit the name (or description) of the snapshot Veeam creates:
VEEAM BACKUP TEMPORARY SNAPSHOT
We monitor open snapshots across all hosts and would like to be able to differentiate between snapshots created by backup vs. replication jobs.

Thanks for your FR. Can you please elaborate a bit more on why do you want to differentiate backups from replicas? Do you have different procedures for deleting these snapshots depending on the job type?

Re: Feature Req - Change Veeam temporary snapshot name
We've had issues in the past with Veeam snapshots becoming orphaned and datastores running out of diskspace. So we have a script that monitors for snapshots outside of backup windows.
We're adding more replicated VMs and many will replicate continuously. So we have no way of being able to discern between the two. If we could name one snapshot "Backup" and one "Replication" we could ignore the replication snaps.

Do you see such issues frequently? I mean this is not normal, since the job should delete this temporary snapshot during it's next run even if it was left after the previous backup (which is not an expected behavior either).

Yes, I would say, let’s fix the issue instead of creating a workaround.
Do you please have a support ticket number, so that we can look and potentially escalate?

... and on top of the suggestions posted above, I would suggest taking a look at Veeam ONE for tracking these orphaned snapshots. Veeam ONE alarm will only be triggered if the corresponding job is not running any more. This should eliminate the need to differentiate these snapshot names.
