File Copy Issue with some folders

I have a file copy job running daily on request from the business.
There are 3 folders on one server.

1 - 254gb with 127 files takes 50 mins.
2 - 18.8gb with 447 files takes 12 mins.
3 - 5gb with 8143 files takes 2 hours 44 mins.

Is the slowness of Folder 3 above because of the number of files or folders.
Or is there another potential reason.

Copying many small files is typically slower than copying several big ones. That's the main reason, I believe. Thanks.

Thought that but a manual copy of the same files and folders from the same location to the same location on backup server takes 5 mins.

Are the conditions absolutely the same - source, target, etc.? In other words, you say that if you copy the same files between the chosen servers, using Windows Explorer, the performance is dramatically better than the one that can be achieved with the use of file copy job? Thanks.

That's exactly it.
Using Veeam file copy on backup server to copy from a folder on a VM to D drive in backup server VEEAM takes 2 hours 44 and file copy in Explorer takes 5 mins.

You might want to open a case with support team and let them find the root cause of this behavior by analyzing the provided logs. Thanks.

Curious to know if v8 has improved the speed of file copy jobs with large quantities of files. I read a few posts where it was mentioned that it would be something coming in v8.

Neil, aren't you confusing file copy jobs with the file to tape jobs probably?

You can check the thread I referred to above for the file to tape jobs performance increase details. As for the file copy jobs, they were not touched as a part of v8 release, as far as I can say.
