First Veeam restore, some quesstions

Context, normal LAN network is 10.x.x.x, SAN network is 172.1.x.x, and then theres internal VM communication on the 10Gb network that is 172.2.x.x. The SAN network and 10Gb network share the same switch, different VLAN's.

Alright, so i went ahead and attempted to redo my datastores...didnt go as planned, had to roll back and store 4 VM's. Easy enough to do the restore itself, i have Veeam configured to do direct backups from storage, that's perfect i see great speeds...when i did the restore it decided to restore it through the 1Gb network (VM Management network), rather then (what i thought it would do) direct to SAN. How can i get Veeam to do restores over the 10Gb network?

Any ideas?

Direct to SAN restore is supported for thick disks only (VMware limitation). If you can do thin-provisioning on a SAN level, consider using thick disks for your VMs to be able to restore directly to SAN.

Hey Gostev thanks so much for the reply. That is good to know, and i will have to change the disk types for future use, is there any documentation on this VMware/Veeam limitation that i can read about and save for future reference?

Also in order to bump up full VM restore performance you can use VM proxy servers and hotadd restore mode.
