GFS - RPS
Hello,
just want to be sure:
a customer wants to save only full backups on a cloud disk, 1 full backup per month for 12 months.
And then save 1 full backup per year - 3 years back.
How should I configure RPS correctly ?

Hello Johnny,
For primary retention customer needs to set 12 restore point to keep, configure the active full backup to run at the desired day and enable yearly backups in the GFS settings. Cheers!

Re: GFS - RPS
Thanks, but does this take care of creating 12 full backup sets year 1 and then archive 1 full backup second and one third year ?
Can you maybe show in rps.dewin ?

Re: GFS - RPS
Understood. Here are the detailed settings:
- Active full backup should be set to monthly
- Restore point count should be set to 12 restore points. Backup job will keep 12 restore points no matter what, but when you have 13th full backup, the first in the chain will be removed
- Yearly backup should be enabled in the GFS policy. Active full backup from the primary chain for the set month will be marked as yearly GFS and wont be removed by primary retention
- For schedule use 'monthly at this time' option and specify the day you've selected for active full backup (day must match as otherwise you'll be creating incrementals)
Hope it helps!

Re: GFS - RPS
Dima,
could you please guide me how to configure http://rps.dewin.me/
I want to send a canvas-png to customer based on given figure (archival of 2.5 TB).
For instance, since it is a backup copy job, should compression be set to "No compression" etc.
Other values that should be changed dedicated to backup copy job configuration ?
Customer wants to create a backup copy job towards SP cloud disk - archival of 2,5 TB.
First twelve months - full backup
Year 1 - full backup
Year 2 - full backup
.....etc....
Year 10 - full backup
Thanks !

Re: GFS - RPS
Backup Copy Job wirh „Only full backup“ to clouds will not work as desired.
You have to set an interval. This interval will never run at the exact same day each month (first of each month).
I would to that:
Copy Job with
- Interval —> Daily
- a Retention of 2-7 Restore Points (will create Incremental Points)
- GFS Setting Monthly —> 12
- GFS Setting yearly —> 3
no guarantee about compression, daily change rate!
