Good way to Backup/Replicate Oracle VM without truncate log
Hello,
Could you please tell me what is the good way to backup/replicate Oracle VM without truncate logs ?
1) Activate AAIP
Select "Perform Copy Only"
2) Activate AAIP
select "Process transaction logs with this job"
Use a SYSDBA account (if really need ?)
Select "Do not delete archived logs"
Thank you very much.

First option should be enough. Thanks.

Re: Good way to Backup/Replicate Oracle VM without truncate
Thank you Vladimir,
When selecting the first option, i got some error message :
"Unable to perform application-aware processing of Oracle database (SID: MYDB) : Oracle error has occurred. ORA-01031: insufficient privileges --tr:Failed to create oracle session. --tr:Failed to create oracle session holder. SID: MYDB."
If we just want to backup/replicate Oracle DB (consistant with Oracle VSS Writer) but don't want truncate Log with Veeam,
when i choose "perform copy only", the account used for AAIP need SYSDBA privilege ?
Regards.

Re: Good way to Backup/Replicate Oracle VM without truncate
I've clarified your question internally and below is the summary I got.
If non-default settings are specified in AAIP Oracle tab, you will need to:
- Oracle Tab: Select account with SYSDBA privileges
- Oracle Tab: Select "do not delete archive logs"
- General Tab: Select Copy Only option
Thanks.
If non-default settings are specified in AAIP Oracle tab, you will need to:
- Oracle Tab: Select account with SYSDBA privileges
- Oracle Tab: Select "do not delete archive logs"
- General Tab: Select Copy Only option
Thanks.

Re: Good way to Backup/Replicate Oracle VM without truncate
Hello Vladimir,
Could you please just clarify one thing, i have to select one of the three options, if non-default settings are specified in AAIP Oracle Tab :
- Oracle Tab: Select account with SYSDBA privileges
"OR" Oracle Tab: Select "do not delete archive logs"
"OR" General Tab: Select Copy Only option
Is that right ?
Because when i select "Perform Copy Only" option, Oracle Tab just disapppear.
Thank you.

If non-default settings are specified in Oracle Tab, you will need to specify all three options (1-2 - first and then the 3 one), even though it's true that as soon as you set the third option the first two will disappear. Thanks.

Re: Good way to Backup/Replicate Oracle VM without truncate
Hi Vlad,
Finally my customer wasn't aware of a sysdba account (he have a dba team who take care of all Oracle DB stuff).
Actually, the dba team Backup Oracle DB with RMAN;
So we just add the registry key "DisableOracleProcessing" = 1 on Oracle VM, in order to make proper AAIP Backup but without Oracle processing.

Thanks again for your help.
Regards.

The said key must have slipped from my mind. Glad to hear, though, that you've been able to find and successfully implement it. Thanks.
