Help - Snapshots

Post by homerjnick »

Not related to Veeam as such but can anyone help?

I accidentally removed a disk that had a snapshot from a VM...I wanted to add it to another server but I should have consolidated it by deleting the snapshot first...when I re-added it it doesn't recognise the snapshot disk is there, just the primary one...how do I add the disk back to the server with the snapshot disk included?

Hi Nick,

I'm not 100% sure it will work, but you may want to edit existing VMX file to restore virtual disk->snapshot chain. I cannot provide you with exact instructions, but this topic should give you a basic idea of how to accomplish it: http://communities.vmware.com/thread/313679

Hope this helps!

Spookily enough the guy Andre who posted the fix on that issue has responded to my post in the VMWare forums just now...so here is hoping...

Good luck, but don't forget to create a backup of this VM before applying any changes to VMX file.

All sorted..had to edit the disk descriptor VMDK files and reference the new CID of the parent disk in the snapshotted disk and then boot and run CHKDSK...
