hot-add proxy questions

Post by TaylorB »

These are probably simple questions, but I just read through the user guide and couldn't find clear answers. So if you can help out with some deployment questions for hot-add, that would be great.

1. So all I need to do to make a proxy for hot-add mode is to install a simple Windows VM and then use the VBR console to push the Proxy role to it? (And maybe add an additional virtual SCSI controller to it if the FAQ is still current)

2. Can the hot-add proxy process multiple VMs from multiple hosts in the cluster at once, or do I need to install multiple proxies to do that? I've been doing up to 8 concurrent tasks on NBD mode with success

3. Any recommended CPU/RAM configuration for hot-add proxies?

why not stick with Network transport?

do you plan on backing up or replicating any of your proxies? if so, with hot add your proxies will not back up or replicate while they're being used as hot add proxies. with network transport - you will not see this limitation.

Hi Taylor, answering to your questions:

1. Yes.
2. Yes, if it has access to all the datastores the VMs reside on.
3. Depends on the load you're going to assign to it (see system requirements for reference).
