Hotadd and VMs with many disks
Greetings.
We have some VMs with many virtual disks (10 or so), spread on some different datastores.
We use the Hotadd method to back these VMs up. I have been looking closely at the process and noticed that the Veeam virtual machine reconfigures itself twice for each virtual disk of the target. That is, for EACH disk of the target, the Veeam server first hot-adds ALL the target VM disks, backs up one disk, detaches all the added disks, then proceeds to the next starting the whole procedure over. This repeated process takes most of the overall processing time when the target has many disks with limited storage data on each.
Is there a reason for this? Wouldn't it be possible instead to hot-add all the disks just once, back all them up, and detach all of them?

Hi Lucio, I will check with the developers on the reason behind that when I am back from the holiday. Thanks!

Hi Lucio - yes, I have discussed this with the devs. Apparently, there is no particular reason for this implementation, and they said they can change this in the future release to only hot add disks once. Thanks!

This might be a bit pre-mature but I applied hotfix 3 and this seems have shaved about 7-10 minutes on my replication jobs. I am thinking it maybe due to this fix!!

Yes, this was fixed in the last patch (see the sticky topic for the whole list of fixes).

That's good news. It's nice to see that the R&D dept. actually listens to the customers' suggestions. Thanks!
