Hotadd vs NBD
I'm backing up to my DR site. My VEEAM proxy is on a VM at the DR site. Both sites are connected with a Layer 2 1Gbps connection. Right now, the hosts at the DR site do not see the production datastores, so VEEAM uses NBD to backup. Would there be a significant speed advantage to configure the DR hosts to see the production datastores so the proxy would use HotAdd?

Serge, a better approach would be to have proxy as a VM on one of the hosts at the source site, close to the production data. That would allow to retrieve data via hotadd and transfer it in a compressed format to the target site.

I know, but I have an issue where iSCSI commands are not getting through the connection. The iSCSI initiator sees the array but can't connect. And I don't have the time to pursue it right now.

You can deploy proxies at source site as virtual machines and use hotadd, no iscsi connections to production datastore is needed, that one is only for directsan.

Re: Hotadd vs NBD
The iSCSI issue has been solved. It was never about the connections to the source datastores, but rather to the target array.
