Hello.
I have two VM on Vmware. both are nodes cluster SQL with share disk.
I need backup the full VM and the SQL app.
What is the best option:
1.Plugin SQL
2.Agent for Windows
3.Backup VM with Application-aware
Regards!

Re: How backup SQL Cluster
Hello,
Technically, only 2 first options can work: SQL plug-in or agent backup job managed by Veeam B&R. The SQL plug-in works better if you intend to manage database backups on the SQL server side and use external schedulers, for example, SQL Server Agent jobs. It gives more flexibility, for instance, you can have different schedules and backup settings for different databases. If you need to protect VMs and not only SQL Server data, you will need to have an agent job anyway as SQL plug-in processes only databases.
Agent management job is the easiest way to have a single point of control and to process VMs and databases within a single job. However, there is no flexibility for database backups.
VM job is not an option I guess because VMware snapshot cannot be created for VMs with a shared disk.
It's up to you to decide which option suits you better.
Thanks!
