We have a vSphere 6.5 Cluster and was given a Synology NAS RS820+ to be used for the Veeam REPO.
It is connected via iSCSI to the vSphere 6.5 Cluster
I have Veeam Backup and Replication 10 installed on a Windows 2016 Server VM
Is there a preferred way to set up the target repo on the Synology for the Veeam backups?
Thanks

Re: How do you set up a repo on a Synology
Hello Stan,
You can use either iSCSI or SMB to add NAS repository to Veeam B&R. With iSCSI you need to register it as a local repository since disk will be presented locally to the Veeam B&R server. With SMB option you need to add file share as SMB repository. Cheers!

Re: How do you set up a repo on a Synology
Hi Dima,
I was looking at a VM in our inventory and see a VM named Backup-Server.
In the setting of the Backup-Server VM, I see Hard Disk 1 and Hard Disk 2 (vmdk) drives on a NetApp SAN volume and below that line it shows “Other Disks” “Manage other disks”.
Clicking on “Manage other disks” shows Hard Disk 3 that is 14 TB.
This looks to be a target repository for Veeam Backups.
Back tracking I found that Hard Disk 3 resides on the Synology NAS.
Going to the Synology, I see a folder called Backup-Server with a Backup-Server.vmdk file of 14 TB
Question is, how was Hard Disk 3 created on the Synology?
I don’t see an option to add a drive in the Backup-Server VM settings that ends up in the “Manage other disks: category?
thanks

Hi Stan,
I guess it is NFS. I would recommend to attach the Synology device directly without the virtualization layer.
