How to add ESXi with linux credentials (ie no DOMAIN\user)

Post by pderwael »

Hi all,

I'm running a few VMs on a stand alone VMware ESXi host and I'm in the process of evaluating Veeam as backup solution
When I try to add the ESXi host, I obviously need to enter some credentials...
Question: how can I add my host with linux type credentials (just USER) instead of Windows (DOMAIN\USER)
I guess this must be something I overlooked, but what... where ... ??

Thanks!

ESXi 5.0.0, Veeam B&R 6.1

Failed to login to "xx.xx.xx.xx" by SOAP, port 443, user
"DOMAIN\USER", proxy srv: port:0
Cannot complete login due to an incorrect user name or password

Hello! Just specify your Linux credentials (without domain, e.g. user: root, password: 12345) and you are good to go.

Well... you bet I tried this, but...
1) When trying to add an ESXi host, I do not have the option NOT to add a domain name

See screen copies

2) I tried to add a Linux host, but again I do not have the possibility to specify the user account on my ESXi

Feeling a bit puzzled... :?

You should change the text size in Windows display settings to 100% and reboot for the wizard controls to be displayed correctly.

I am getting a similar issue. Running Windows XP SP3, and trying to add a vmware host.

The credentials box that comes up after I enter the IP address of the VMware server has no boxes for username or password, just a browse button.

Original pics above are no longer available, so can't tell if its the exact same issue. I don't see a text size setting in Windows display settings.

To increase or decrease the size of objects and text on your screen

1.Open Display in Control Panel.
2.On the Settings tab, click Advanced.
3.On the General tab, in the DPI setting list, click the dots per inch (dpi) setting you want to use.
4.If you choose Other in the DPI setting list, you can set custom options in the Custom DPI Setting dialog box either by selecting one of the percentage options in the drop-down list or by clicking on the ruler and dragging the pointer to specify a setting.
5.Restart your computer when prompted.

Thanks.
