How to restore from .VIB files
I'm new to Veeam backup software. Currently evaluating the enterprise plus edition for our company.
Here is our setup:
VMWare Esxi 5.5 host ( 1 vm)
Veeam v8 BR software
Setup a forward incremental backup ( 4 restores )
Backup ran fine for 3 days , it generated the following files
.VBK ( 4GB file) ( day 1 )
.VIB file ( day 2 )
.VIB file ( day 3 )
.VIB file ( day 4 )
Now took the backup disk to a different network/server. Installed v8 free edition.
To restore from the above backups, none of the files will open except .VBK
When I double that .VBK file it opens Veeam software and I'm able to restore the VM
to a new ESXi host. When I open the VM, I see data as on "day 1" only.
1) How to get the data from .VIB files ( day 2-4) into the current restored VM ?
I tried the same scenario using reverse incremental backups. Same thing happened after
the restoration, all I see is data from day 1.
Am I missing some basics here. Please help. Are the initial backups setup wrong. All I want is
to see data from day 4 when I restore to another host.

Re: How to restore from .VIB files
You need to import the backup chain into Veeam B&R console to be able to restore from any of the restore points in it.

Thanks for the quick reply.
So until we "rescan the backup repository" at the restore site we cannot restore
from the backup increment files ?

Re: How to restore from .VIB files
Do you have VIB files in the same directory/folder as the VBK file you're trying to import?

Yes both .VIB and .VBK files are in same directory

Re: How to restore from .VIB files
You need to "register" the chain in the product, this is done upon importing the backup (or rescanning the repository, which also performs import).
