How to work BfSS with excluding virtual disk?

Post by Yukinobu »

Hi,

How does it work if we exclude virtual disks and set storage snapshot retention settings like the following settings?

Primary Storage: HPE Nimble Storage
VM has Virtual Disk 1 and Virtual Disk 2.
Virtual Disk 1 is placed on Volume 1 of Primary Storage.
Virtual Disk 2 is placed on Volume 2 of Primary Storage.
Excluding Virtual Disk 1(SCSI 0:0).
Backup to Local repository.
Storage snapshot retention is 1 for Primary Storage.

I believe that Virtual Disk 1 is excluded from backup.

But how to work with storage snapshot?
Storage snapshot is only created for Volume 2?
Or need storage snapshot be created for Volume 1 and Volume 2?

Kind Regards,

Question why you want to do this, you will not be able to restore the VM then? Other restore options are limited as well as the information from the primary disk is missing (to check where the databases are located from registry or oratab for example.

And answering your question - no, a snapshot will not be triggered for the volume if all disks residing on it are excluded.
