Hi Guys,

Quick query, will CDP be able to be used with Veeam Cloud Connect Replication? Or only local replication? Will the feature require the replica to have access to the production storage / shared storage?

Still trying to understand exactly how the I/O redirects will work and not sure if Cloud Replication will work effectively?

Hi Matt, replica will not require access to the source storage. Cannot comment regarding feature availability for the Cloud Connect at the moment.

Hi Matt,
I/O redirection is done inside the vSphere VAIO libraries, each ESXi will have a connector where our software, being VAIO compliant, will be able to connect and retrieve a copy of each IO for VMs that are selected to be protected with CDP. So write IO will be technically split, one copy to the underlying storage, the other to our sofware. That's why we don't need access to the underlying storage.

Would it be possible to go from VMware to Hyper-V with CDP? Or is VEEAM Agent backup the only way? Desperately in need of a conversion tool that can keep things in sync until the cut-over.

CDP is VMware-to-VMware. You will need to continue using VAW to go from one hypervisor to another by exporting the disks from the agent backup to the appropriate virtual disk format.

Alternatively, you can instantly recover agent backup to Hyper-V host and, then, finalize the restore procedure. Thanks

Hi, about 8 months later, just wondering if you are able to share any details yet about replicating VM's with physical RDM's? You can see my previous post about our use case for pRDM's and why. And thank you for your response but it was still a speculating response that didn't sound like CDP would be able to do it. Can you confirm or deny yet? We are at a point with our customers that may make the move to purchase Zerto replicate Meditech VM's w/ pRDM's. Do you have any connections internally with Veeam developers that would be able to speak about this?

Thanks!

Most of Veeam people here are working in Product Management department. So, yes, we do have internal connections with developers.

That said, currently we still cannot provide any ETA, neither can we share any feature implementation details.

Thanks.

We will have much more information soon, since devs are planning to ship the internal tech preview in the next few weeks. Can't wait to play with it myself ;)

I'm also patiently waiting and wondering when this will be released.

I have a client that currently uses Zerto. My client has a single instance of vCenter Server that manages all of their hosts at each of their 4 locations. We need to replicate a VM from one storage array to another locally. We also need to replicate the same VM to a storage array (and host) at a remote location. Zerto does not support this scenario. Zerto requires an additional instance of vCenter at the remote location be linked to the local vCenter instance.

Can anyone comment if a one to many CDP replication will be supported using a single instance of vCenter Server?

If this is possible then Zerto is gone!

Thanks in advance

Gostev...thanks for the quick reply.

Will I be able to use CDP over a WAN connection to an ESXi host at a remote site?

I'm wondering if I can leverage Zerto for local and Veeam CDP for remote replications (or vice versa).

Yes, that should work well unless your WAN connection is extremely unreliable.

Just wondering if there will be a public beta for v10 so those of us in need of CDP can get a jump start?

There will be a private beta, as usual (we don't do public betas for B&R).

I hope that new version will be released soon because we don't want change our backup and replication software.
Also I think, public beta will be better than private beta for testing this big change!

I'm curious why you think so. The difference in having private beta is that you can get the software via one of us in the pre-sales team, which also means that one of our SE is committing to follow the tests, be sure that deployment is done correctly, help out, and report back to R&D any finding so that the software can be tuned before going GA. I don't see the problem in this plan but maybe you can tell.

Thanks,

Hi,

are there any further updates on this? I'm getting pressured from above to start considering Zerto for its CDP capabilities.

Thanks,

Thank you very much for the response.

Is there anything I can go back to the board with, with regard to timescales are we looking at a month, 6 months 12 months? I am a massive fan of Veeam B&R and really don't want to swap our solution, but the needs of the business are soon going to trump that.

Any chance of getting on to the private beta? We'd be happy to test.

Thanks,

Internal beta for our sales engineers will be launched before the end of this month, based on it's results in a few weeks we will make the decision whether we can make the same build a private beta (or should wait for the next iteration). In any case, you will be able to evaluate before EOY. Hope this helps!

Thanks Anton,

My question is, will CDP plug straight into B&R 9.5? or will it be an addon/separate package/separate cost like VAO? Just trying to plan out next hurricane season!

Thanks

The current plan is to include it into the Enterprise Plus edition with no extra per-VM cost. Thanks!
