Item Level Recovery for Exchange
Backup Set up - Active Directory Domain/Forest Functional level – Windows Server 2003
Exchange 2010 SP1 - Online Archive is enabled for the mail users
Online Archive is in the same mailbox DB as the primary
Veeam Version - VEEAM 6.5.0.109
When the mails are moved to the online archive mailbox of the user according to the retention policies defined in the exchange, mail would not be in the primary inbox of the user.
This scenario is to restore a mail which had been deleted from the online archive mailbox.
Then when we try to do the Item level recovery by Veeam from a backup which had the mail in the online archive, shows it as a deleted item, which is correct. Though when we try to restore it, by stating to restore it to the original location, Veeam does not restore it to the Online Archive inbox. Veeam creates a new folder structure (inbox/sent items, etc accordingly) and restores the mail to that folder.
Is there a way to make it sent to the online archive mailbox instead of having Veeam create a new folder structure and restoring it there.

Hi Vitaliy,
Is this possible if the online archive reside in a different DB than the production mail box? Is this not possible due to Veeam being not aware of the online archive mailbox feature in Exchange? Thanks.

Hi, Naditha. Restoring Exchange items directly to online archive isn’t possible right at the moment regardless on which database this archive resides.
Hope this helps.
Thanks.
