Job fails with Guest File Indexing disabled for specific VMs

Post by Virtuollie »

Hello folks,

I have an issue with a couple of Windows 2003 VMs (yes, I know that W2K3 is end-of-life for a long time now).
The backup job ends with status failed and the error message "Error: Unable to perform guest file system indexing: Microsoft Windows Server 2003 (Standard) guest OS type is not supported for indexing."
This would have been well expected - however, in "Guest Processing" -> "Guest File System Indexing Options", the VMs have been explicitly added and set to "Disabled" for both, Windows and Linux.

I am running Veeam Backup and Replication v11 (11.0.0.837 P20210507)

Support Case ID is #04853477

Any similar expereines, anyone?

Thanks and best regards,
Ollie

Ollie,

Do you have the same issue when you create a test job with application-aware settings disabled on the job level (without exclusions)?

Thanks!

Vitaliy,

Completely disabled Guest Processing works just as expected in a test job.

I should give more details regarding the original job:
I am working with VMware vSphere tags and tag combination here. Content of the job is built by combination as various tags (new feature in v11).
Usually, I also disable guest processing based on tags, so there is a tag for "application awareness disabled" and "guest file indexing disabled".
When this didn't work for above mentioned VMs, I tried to define exceptions specificaly for these machines - well, you know the result.

Thanks,
Ollie

Sounds crazy familiar to known v10 bug that was fixed long time ago(jobs with "Ignore failures" setting on 2003 VMs were still failing with Error).
Maybe something specific to tagging popped out - support will have no problem finding the root of the issue, of that I'm sure.
