LAN FREE with DAS
Hello,
I've got a SAN (FC) with lan free backup.
I'll change my storage and servers soon.
Is it possible to do lan free backup with an Dell SCV2020 and DAS (SAS)?
My backup storage could be connected directly to the storage.
Thanks a lot.

Re: LAN FREE with DAS
Hi,
If you can attach Veeam backup server to both backup storage and vm storage via FC then it will be possible to utilize direct SAN mode, that will let you transfer backup data via FC, however Veeam will still require LAN connection to ESXi host's management interface (or vCenter ).

Re: LAN FREE with DAS
Yes, you can. Connect your backup storage with SAS to the backup server so it can serve as repository. After that connect your VM storage with FC to the backup server so it can server as a direct-SAN proxy. Please keep in mind that since the host is going to serve as repo and proxy you need to make sure that the system meets system requirements that add up in this case. Please take a look at this schema. The only difference is that in your case roles of backup server, proxy, and repository are placed on the same machine. More info here.
Thanks
Thanks

Sorry, my english is poor and we misunderstood
My storage (datastore) will be a Dell SVC2020 with Direct attached storage to 3 ESX.
Is it possible to connect my backup server to my datastore (Dell SVC2020) with DAS?
Thank you.

Re: LAN FREE with DAS
Yes, it should work fine with DAS too. Important thing to remember about: after you have connected the datastore to backup server do not allow Windows to initialize any VMFS volumes you are presenting to it as this will destory all VM that reside on the datastore!
