Hi,
Can anyone tell me what level of encryption is used when you encrypt the lan traffic in Veeam Backup v5?
Thanks,
Mark

Hi, it is SSL with 128bit key (I believe) - this encryption is provided natively by VMware, not us. Thanks.

hi,
considering a job that backs up to a qnap device on remote site over wan, does this option make sense if it is checked or not?

Re: LAN Traffic Encryption Level
Use of encryption slightly affects host CPU usage but does not affect the amount of transferred data. Thanks.

it is clear that cpu usage will be higher than normal with this option, but i actually wonder the state of data going across wan link. will it be encrypted as well while backing up to a qnap device on the remote site over wan?

Got it. No, this option applies to the data retrieval from source only (i.e. only the connection between Veeam server and host is encrypted). It does not affect data on their way from Veeam server to target.

Re: LAN Traffic Encryption Level
thank you for reply. there is one last question: i understand that veeam don't have any encryption for datas going across the wan link for the case i mentioned. so the only thing to make these datas secure depends on what type of link and connection i use between two sites, right?

Re: LAN Traffic Encryption Level
Exactly. Most customers use VPN between sites, so adding additional traffic encryption on top is not needed. You are already trusting this connection all other unencrypted data anyway.
