linux file restore and french characters

We are using vbr for restoring our samba files, but we cannot restore files who contains french char and it's a problem for us. Does these characters will be supported by vbr ? Thank you.

Does this system support UTF-8?

yes, utf-8 is supported.

an idea : the flr virtual machine does not include the locale package
maybe you can provide this package in the live cd and let us to define the language and character set in a configuration file ?
i think that we are not the only french users with this problem

Hi Karim,
I had the same problem with Thai character (my samba is 3.0.33) which setting in samba configuration with cp874 charset . I had to convert only filename from cp874 charset to utf8 and change setting in samba configuration from cp874 to utf8. After backup with vbr and can restore without any problem.

converted all filenames with convmv -f ISO8859-15 -t UTF-8
guest restore file is ok
