Linux FLR issue

Post by squebel »

I am trying to perform a Linux FLR using the helper appliance but I am getting stuck basically at the beginning where the VBR server reaches out the ESXi host to try to have it mount the NFS datastore from the repository. I think the recovery job stops right there because it can't mount the NFS datastore to the ESXi host from the mount server. I believe I know the basic issue (network path and port blocks) but I am trying to find the logs that this would generate to figure out exactly what is happening. I looked in c:\programdata\veeam\backup\FLRSessions\Other_OS but I didn't see anything for this particular session because it didn't get very far. Any ideas on where I can look?

Reaching the support team and finding the root cause during the detailed investigation might be the best course of action here. Thanks!

Agree veremin. I have a case open with them and am working to figure it out. I just wish I could find the log on my own. They're easy to find for backup jobs, but apparently not so much for restores?

Hi @squebel ,

In general, the relevant logs for the Linux FLR can be found:

On the VBR server:
C:\ProgramData\Veeam\Backup\FLRSessions\OtherOS
C:\ProgramData\Veeam\Backup\Svc.VeeamMount.log (if the repository's mount server is not the same as the VBR server, then this log file will be on the mount server)
%LOCALAPPDATA%\Veeam\Backup\FLRSessions\OtherOS

On the helper host/helper appliance:
/var/log/VeeamBackup/FLRSessions/OtherOS
/var/log/VeeamBackup/Agent.MountHost.log
/var/log/VeeamBackup/Agent.FLR.Source.logs

And finally, on the target VM:
/var/log/VeeamBackup/Agent.FLR.Target.logs

Best regards,
Artur

Thanks Artur. We were able to narrow this down to a final port (9401) not being open between the mount server and our backup server. We're providing backups for a customer that sits behind their own firewalls but using our VBR server to make all of the calls to a proxy/repo/mount server that sits in their environment. Everything works well from a backup perspective and works how we need it to. But when we need to do an FLR, we're stuck at a point where the mount server tries to reach back to the VBR server on 9401. We want to avoid opening up a pathway back into our VBR server from the customer side. Is there any way to run an FLR directly from the Mount server that does not require a call back to the main VBR server?
