Load Control

Post by kcalk »

Anyone have some guidelines on what a good load control setting would be for a repository in v8?

Depends on at least a dozen of things really, so definitely no "one size fits all" answer here... backup mode, hard drives type, amount of spindles, RAID level, stripe size, proxies, connectivity etc. etc.

One thing to watch for is job session's message about your backup repository being overloaded - if you get that, then you should definitely reduce your concurrent tasks count.

Well all the equipment is about a year old. Storage is a HP EasyStore 30TB SAN connected via iSCSI on a 1 GB port. I am not looking for a specific number or metric, but usually there is some kind of "rule of thumb" that can be used to estimate a value. Default is 2 or 3 I think. I am wanting to go to like 6 or 7.

The only rule of thumb is that "it depends", primarily on the factors I've listed. Without that information, I can only provide "worst case" rule of thumb, which I would say is 8 spindles per job.
