Long term synthetic full

Post by slclarke »

Hi,

Not so much as technical issue, more if the following query possible.

Currently backing up our main file server using the option "synthetic full" with "transform previous full backup chains into rollbacks" on Tue and Thur. This is purly a disk-to-disk backup keeping 100 restore points running daily, fantastic for not having to refer to tape when looking to restore data from weeks in the past.

Query I have is that this server is 680GB with each daily incremental being between 15-30Gb. Currently there is a full backup created this morning and a full backup from about a month ago. Being a synthetic backup is there a way of getting rid of this full backup from a month ago and turning it into an incremental restore point?

Any more questions please let me know.

Thanks

Hi slclarke,

How many full backups do you currently have in the backup chain?

Thanks

Transform operation is only performed for a previous forward incremental backup chain, so if you have two full backup files, only the most recent one will be transformed into a reversed incremental restore point.
