Looking for advice for vm migration problem.
Hello,
a customer need to migrate about 10 VMs from an old VMware 4.x infrastructure to a new one ESXi 6.7 standalone server with internal hdd datastore. The only thing I can do is power off VMs.
I had thought using Veeam Backup free Quick migration feature, but I think the latest VBR releases are not compatible with ESXi 4.5.x. Is it correct ?
Before doing copy/paste all VMs files via SCP, another solution would be to use VMware Converter Standalone.
Any other suggestions are welcome.
Thank you
Best regards
Davide

Re: Looking for advice for vm migration problem.
Hi Davide,
last version to support vSphere 4.x was Veeam Backup & Replication 9.5 Update3. Since support for vSphere 6.7 came out with Update 3a, and 6.7U3 with Update 4b, you cannot go with single Veeam version to achieve your goal, however following plan should work:
- install raw Veeam Backup & Replication v9.5(do not install updates) and backup your vSphere 4.x VMs.
- install current Veeam Backup & Replication v10 and import backups. Restore on a new vSphere 6.7 cluster.
Make sure to update VM Hardware version and VMware Tools accordingly after recovery!
/Cheers!

Ahh, right. You will have to request official download link via support ticket in this case.
