Merge Servers

Post by Leeroyr »

We have one veeam server for backup and one veeam server for replication, is it possible to merge both these servers into one?

Lee, there's no way to merge two Veeam B&R instances into one, however what you could (and probably need to) do is copy jobs data using these instructions.

Btw, can I ask what is the reason under merging these Veeam B&R instances? If the instance responsible for replication is located in the remote site, then this is a generally recommended way of setting things up due to several reasons.

The replica server is on the DR site, the backup server onsite for local backup.

We have had a couple of instances where the replica and backup have crossed, both backing/replicating the same server which has caused issues.

Migrate all the jobs to the offsite server will mage the tasks more manageable.

What kind of issues did you have? If set up properly (i.e. using separate job schedules to avoid possible conflicts during VSS freeze/unfreeze operations), this scenario should work fine, please review a couple of existing topics regarding the same configuration:

Multi Management Servers - Same VM
Replication Job and backup job overlaps

Thanks.
