Migrate or new installation (Veeam configuration)

Post by RomanAxBe »

Hi,

Existing environment:
Windows Server 2008 R2 with Veeam Backup & Replication V6

New:
Windows Server 2012 R2 with Veeam Backup & Replication V7

Databases are on a SQL Cluster
Can this be migrated or should I reinstall better?

My idea:
- Install Server 2012 R2
- Veeam B & R install all patches (existing SQL DB)
- Backup configuration Veeam B & R 6.5
- Restore configuration on the new Server

Can the backup data is copied to the new server?

Since you're using remote SQL server to store Veeam B&R configuration, there's no need to back it up and restore, just point the setup wizard to the existing database during installation of the new Veeam B&R and when it warns you that the database is in use by another installation, choose to take over the database.

What do you mean by backup data, backup files stored in the backup repository?
