Mount VM Disk that is in process of production migration

Post by azon2111 »

Is there a way to mount the dummy disk to another VM while the instant VM recovery is migrating to production?

Scenario - Needed Instant Recovery to bring server back up but rebuilt server needs disk access while migration to production is underway.

Hello,
which "dummy disk" are you talking about?

Except for corner case configurations, VMware allows only one machine to access a virtual disk.

If a second machine needs access to the data on another machine, then NAS protocols (SMB / NFS) are usually the way to go.

Best regards,
Hannes

You can do a instant disk recovery of your "VM OS disk" from a working restore point.
No need to rebuilt a server, if you have a consistent backup.

Thank you for the reply.

We rebuilt the server and just copied the db over manually while instant vm was powered on. Issue resolved. Thanks.
