Move non-SOBR repository disk to different host maintaining backup chain

Post by squebel »

Hello, I feel like this topic has been covered somewhere but I was not finding the exact answer I needed.

I have a repository disk on a Windows server (ReFS) that I would like to detach from the current server and add it to a different server while being able to maintain the integrity of the backup chain and so that the next backup job run runs like a normal incremental and finishes as you'd exepct. There is currently a single backup job with a single vm going to this repo. What are the steps involved to get this done cleanly? Thanks!

Hi Squebel

Such disk migration with reFS filesystem should work as long the new repository server has the same or higher windows build number. A lower windows built will not work and the reFS volume will show up as a RAW disk.

1.) Detach the disk from the original repo server
2.) Attach it to the new repo server.
3.) Add a new repository with the location on the new repo server
4.) Run a rescan
5.) Change the job to use the new repository and map you backup to the backup chain

The backup job will continue the backup chain.

Thanks, Fabian. That certainly seems pretty simple!
