Move VeeamFLR Folder

Post by anst »

Hi, Is there a way to move the Veeam FLR folder from C:\veeamFLR to another drive, for example the d: drive?

Hi Andy,

Yes, that's possible. As far as I know there should be a registry key that should do that, please contact our support team for assistance.

Thanks!

Why do you want to move it? Do you realize that its contents does not take any disk space?

How about moving the location the Veeam FLR Folder extracts its temporary files to (and doesn't clean them up when its finished) - i.e. C:\users\veeamserviceacct\AppData\Local\Temp? This does consume disk space..

Veeam does "extract" any actual files there. And what you see appearing at this location does not consume any disk space either.

I see the following files in each folder, and have several of the same folders:

GuestIndexData.zip - 47MB
summary.txt - 1KB
volume.C.ifd - 2MB
volume.D.ifd - 90MB
volume.E.ifd - 42MB
volume.S.ifd - 40MB

And I have a folder like this for each FLR request that has been performed in the past, so I suggest these are definately 'Extracted', as the Guest File Index would not natively be there, it has come from a backup file. And I've listed for you the space that these consume per folder (i've got about 200 of these folders)..

So i do think its a fair question at least ;)

OK, this is not the stuff I was thinking and talking about (published virtual disk content). This just looks as a bug, if those files are not deleted.

Josh, we are unable to reproduce this issue internally. Please open a support case, provide support log package and post the support case ID here.

Hi Josh,

Could you please tell us what version of Veeam B&R do you currently use?

Do you see this behavior while running 1-click FLR using Enterprise Manager or you're using Windows FLR wizard which is built-in to the Veeam backup console?

Thanks!

Hi guys,

Am using Veeam B&R 6.0.0.181 (64 bit) - this is happening from the Windows FLR wizard from within Veeam.Backup.Shell.exe

Is nowhere near painful enough to want to subject myself to a support case, uploading GBs of logs, and having to endure the L1 support guys. Had just seen the thread and wondered if someone else would find I saw useful :)

That's fine... we just cannot even get these files to appear in the first place, no matter what we do :D

Is there a solution for this problem or will it be solved in version 6.5? I got a customer call with complaints that it filled up his c-drive on the backup server...

Thanks!

Ralf, as Anton has stated above, we could not reproduce this behavior and hence investigate the problem. It would be appreciated if the customer could provide the logs to our technical team. Probably reviewing them will give us some hints in pursuing the issue.

I found the same issue on our system, each folder uses between 1 and more than 300 MB). Already using B&R 7. It's not a big issue for me, but if you want to investigate, tell me and I open a case. (I'm going to clear some of the older folders and do not touch newer folders, just in case).

Hi Foggy!

I guess I should first install Patch 1. I found this entry in the Release notes at http://www.veeam.com/KB1823:
Guest indexing: Temporary files produced by guest file system indexing process are not correctly removed from AppData\Local\Temp.

Installing the patch is indeed a valid step, I initially thought you were talking about C:\veeamFLR folder. So probably this is the issue you're seeing.

Yeah, sorry, I already thought that my post is not clear. Anyway, thanks, and I post again tomorrow after next backup if the patch resolved the AppData\Local\Temp issue.

After installing Patch 1 of Veeam B&R 7.0 the temporary files and folders in AppData\Local\Temp are cleaned properly

I just applied patch 2 and have a little less than 2GB of data in my temp folder. Will these be cleaned or do I need to delete them?

Thank and sorry for resurrecting an old thread, but I just ran into this issue.

Should be cleaned up automatically, as far as I understand. Anyway, you can remove files manually, if needed.
