Moving standalone hosts to vCenter, what steps in VBR?
Hi, I'm currently backing up VM's from Standalone Hosts in VBR. I'm moving these hosts (one at a time) into vCenter. What steps and in what order to take in VBR? (Veeam Support couldn't give me a straight answer)
Thanks
Thanks

Hi Samuel, you can leave it as is and continue backing up VMs via standalone ESXi. However, if you decide to switch to backing up via vCenter, you would need to re-add VMs to the jobs, since their ID's will be different, which will result in full data read during the next job run.

Thanks for your reply!
Yes, I'm also moving the backups to (going via) the vCenter. I'm pretty sure I need to remove the hosts from Standalone right? Cause of SSL cert et.c.? I guess VBR cannot have two references to the same host? And then do a Rescan (in VBR) of the vCenter?

There's no need to remove host entries, they won't affect anything.

Thanks,
Ok, I see. I tried that in my lab but then I got an error msg in the Backup Job. "Error: Host 'xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx' with type 'ESX' and parentId 'xxx' not found.". I then removed the host as "Standalone" and Rescanned the vCenter (in VBR). Then the job could run. I guess I thought this procedure was described in a KB or something.

It is just the fact that any infrastructure change requires a rescan. If you had left the host and done a rescan, it would still have fixed the issue.

Ok, I see. So a single host can exist as both a Standalone and also inside a vCenter in VBR at the same time?
