Need help with VM Encryption AND Veeam Encryption?

Post by mwvme » 4 people like this post

I have written a technical white paper that is all about using VM Encryption and Veeam Encryption. Lots of detail on how to make everything work and achieve the goal of nothing ever in the clear. The web title of it suggests it only does VMware VM Encryption. But it does both Veeam and VMware encryption. Find it here - https://www.veeam.com/wp-vmware-vm-encryption.html

I hope it helps you be successful with VM and Veeam encryption. Comments or suggestions welcome.

Hi Michael,

Please correct me if I am wrong, we will not be able to achieve inline dedup&compression in VBR via hot-add proxy. I am not quite sure is there any impact to incremental backups?

Veeam B&R encryption is transparent to our inline dedupe and compression, since is done afterwards. But in-guest encryption will inflate the backups.

Any hope of the Veeam enterprise manager someday being an approved KMS for vsphere? Would be great to avoid having to purchase another product such as HyTrust just for this purpose.

Encryption performed on the VM guest OS level will confuse Veeam B&R deduplication and compression.
