Netapp SnapVault relationship not found

Post by doomi »

I have a Netapp with cDOT 8.3.1 and NFS datastores.
every datastore is on it's own volume, which has a snapvault relationship to another Netapp.
manual snapvault updates work fine.
backup jobs on the primary Netapp do also work.
but the snapvault transfer don't work always. error is:
Cannot find any relevant Netapp SnapVault and SnapMirror relationships

the strange thing is, that I had this issue after implementing the configuration. but suddenly it worked!
but only for about a week, and now I'm getting the error again.

I tried rescanning, creating a Vault Schedule policy (don't think one is needed), changing the Vault policy, etc
is there any documentation, which minimal configuration is needed on the Netapps?

I tried rescanning, changing vault policy, changing schedule policy, rescanning again...
but finally, a simple snapvault update did it!

does B&R only take relationships with low transfer lag into account?

Hi Dominic,

Veeam B&R does not take into account relationships with low transfer lag. What did your support engineer say after reviewing the debug logs?

Thanks!

Can you please tell us a bit more on what you did to make it work?

I just did a manual SnapVault update on the Netapp commandline or GUI of the destination storage.
(snapmirror update -destination path <path> )

So manual snapvault update has fixed the transfer and now this update works automatically via Veeam B&R console? Are you able to rescan this volume from the Veeam backup console - sv_nfs_vxstore01?

yes, after the manual update it works automatically (again).
and yes, rescan works (always did).

I also have some questions for you:
do you get the relationship info on the source or the destination Netapp?
do you read the relationship info only when running the job or also when doing a rescan?

Dominic,

1. Veeam backup console retrieves this list from the target, that's why it is mandatory to add target storage to Veeam backup as well.
2. This data is queried during job run.

Thanks!
