Network Throttling Rules
Hi
We have a large customer switching it's backup of local remote offices to Veeam B&R. They will have local backup proxies with DAS and central repositories (StoreOnce based) for Backup Copies. They want to enable Network Throttling for WAN Communications from local site to Central site. We have one rule set up as:
Source IP address range: IP of local proxy server
Target IP address range: IP of regional StoreOnce
Encrypt network traffic: Disabled
Throttle network traffic: Enabled
Throttle to: X Mbps (10 % of the capacity of Internet Link)
Apply throttling: During the specified time periods only:
Enable: Monday – Friday during 06:00 – 20:00
For all other times we want to use 100% of the WAN capacity from the local sites, can this be done with only this rule or do I have to create a new one with Throttlibg disabled during other times?

Re: Network Throttling Rules
Hi Mats and welcome to the community!
You're good to go with a single rule for the working hours.
Also, you should deploy Gateway server in the site with the StoreOnce repository (if we are talking about SMB Share), in order to apply throttling between the backup components. Thanks!

Thanks for reply. Aren't the Gateway server role part of the Proxy installation?

Re: Network Throttling Rules
Nope, it can be deployed only in Physical or Virtual machine as an independent backup component.
Please check the System requirements for the Gateway server. Thanks

Re: Network Throttling Rules
But we will have the gateway server at the proxies at local offices to send directly to the StoreOnce Catalyst, why have a gateway server on the central site?

Re: Network Throttling Rules
I'm sorry I was mistaken.
You can choose a backup proxy machine to act as a Gateway Server.
The Gateway server in the central site allows you to avoid uncompressed traffic over WAN. Thanks!
