Offline / Disconnected Backup
Good Day,
I have a requirement to place backup data on offline / disconnected / cold media. This would be a "Full" that would occur quarterly, or bi-annually.
This backup would need to be able to be imported onto any machine that fresh installed VBR.
My raw data size of this is around 10 TB.
We have an initiative to move away from tape. Can someone make a recommendation to put this to USB/eSATA drives? Would you use VeeamZip, Backup Copy, or neither?
Thank You.

Re: Offline / Disconnected Backup
Hi, Murigar. I personally would do VeeamZIP to external hard drive, if I were given these requirements. Thanks!

Re: Offline / Disconnected Backup
If you already have a regular backup strategy in place, and this additional copy has to go offline, in my opinion the quickest way would be to copy the most recent full backup file to the external drive. No additional I/O created on the production environment at all since the backup is already there...

Re: Offline / Disconnected Backup
Is the only thing required the .VBK?
Does this file contain all the cataloging / indexing / or otherwise required to import into a freshly stood up VBR?

Yes, VBK file contains index information and is sufficient to perform any type of restore.

Re: Offline / Disconnected Backup
I believe that would be the most effective method to accomplish what I want.
Are there any provisions for splitting the VBK file? There is a high probability that single file would exceed the ~4TB size of external drives.
The advantage VeeamZip would have is that the individual file size would be smaller, although many more in count.

The only way to accomplish this is to split the job itself into several smaller ones.
