Offsite replication between two Synologys NAS with rsync?

Post by Patrick.Schultz »

Hi there,

does anybody has experience with the following scenario?

I'am about to use a Synology NAS as a backup target on the onsite.
I would like to replicate those backups to another Synology NAS which is located offsite by the rsync protocol.

Of course one factor will be the bandwith of the WAN route between those sites and the delta size.

Will this work properly?

Greetings

Before we get into details regarding usage of rsync, may I ask you a question? Have you considered leveraging backup copy job with WAN Acceleration enabled not only to transfer backup data offsite, but also to deal with limited WAN bandwidth? Thanks.

To use the benefit of WAN acceleration I need another Veeam host on the offsite, am I right?
It is not provided to setup another Veeam host on the offsite, because the offsite will be in a home office.

Yes, for the most optimal data transfer to remote location you would need some Windows server located there. That said, rsync used to be a pretty common solution the days prior backup copy job was introduced, so you can search this forum for other discussions mentioning this kind of setup.
