Possible problems after upgrading to ESX5i from ESX4.1

Post by schedlbauerm »

We plan to upgrade to ESX5i from ESX4.1.

We have several veeam backup and veeam replica jobs.

If a direct upgrade from esx4.1 to esx5i is not possible, we will do a new installation. We will remove the old esx4.1 from the virtualcenter and will add the new esx5i with the same name to the virtualcenter.

All the vms in our veeamjobs are selected over the virtual-center, none of them directly over the esxserver.

Will my veeam-backup and -replicajobs continue to work ?

What problems might occur ?

Best regards,

Martin

You should be fine if you use VMotion to put the VMs back on the newly introduced ESX5i host. If you use any other method, it will make vCenter recreate unique VM ID, and this will brake your jobs.
