Problem to exclude disk (RAW) from backup

Post by onsik »

We have VM with 2 disk.
First disk (SCSI 0:0) is normal vmdk file and second disk SCSI (1:0) is configured as Mapped RAW LUN.
As far as I know you do not support RAW disk, so I tried to exclude the RAW disk (SCSI 1:0) from a backup, but when I go to exclusion list I can only see SCSI 0:0 and SCSI 0:1 (I am not sure what is sCSI 0:1).
I do not see on the list the RAW disk which has SCSI ID 1:0 and if I try to run a backup it fails.

Hi Mariusz,

I guess you using physical RDMs, right? Keep in mind that even if you exclude disks from backup, the entire VM will still be snapshotted, this is how VMware snapshots work. If you have physical RDM attached to the VM, then you need to convert it to the virtual compatibility mode and then run the backup job.

Here is a bit more details in our blogpost: http://www.veeam.com/blog/rdms-explaine ... ation.html

Thanks!

I'm not sure you are even supposed to see the raw disk in that view, since regardless you exclude it or not, you cannot snapshot a physical RDM or back it up.
