Proxy server in two environments. Possible?
Hi all
We do have a virtual B&R instance on a Windows Server 2008 and we do have a physiscal proxy server with 2012R2. Now we want to create a new environment based on a HP StoreOnce because the old boxes we have are very small.
Now we want to setup a new virtual server with Windows Server 2016 and Veeam B&R 9.5 U3 which uses the ESXISTING Proxy Server because we want it to talk via 10 Gbit to our storage system and via 10Gbit to our new store once machine as well.
The question is...
1) is it allowed to have 2 Veeam B&R instaces running? One with new jobs and hardware, VMs and one for the old environment?
2) is it possible to use a physical veeam proxy in two environments or is this prohibted?
If 2 is not possible. How should we procceed with the old server? We def. want it to be 2016 and not 2008 for several reasons. In place upgrade? We are not able to kill this server because we still backup the environment with via the proxy.
Thanks for your feedback
Michael

Re: Proxy server in two environments. Possible?
Hi Michael!
1 - Yes, you are able to have multiple B&R servers in place - there is no Veeam cost to do that. You can use the same license for both - a good idea is to manage both B&R instances with the Veeam Enterprise Manager - for one - it will centrally manage the license. Secondly, it will give you good job visibility for both environments.
2 - yes you can have 2 B&R's using the same proxy/proxies. There is just no "coordination" between them - so be aware of your job times.

Hi Rick
Thanks for this great feedback! I assume that the versions of the B&Rs have to match each other as well as the Proxy one?
Cheers

You are welcome Michael. Ah yes - that is the catch, Michael. They have to be the same version and update. So, on current available matters for B&R it would be 9.5 Update 3a.
If any hotfixes are pushed around - it should be consistently done on all environments.
