Question about Local Storage and Backup Proxies
Hi All
Our environment:-
Dell R740 with 130TB local storage with Veeam B&R installed.10GB ethernet connection.
5x Dell R730XD's with ESXi6.5 and a large vSan cluster.
We are backing up to the R740 onto the local storage. According to this link : https://helpcenter.veeam.com/docs/backu ... tml?ver=95
It says the following :- Local Storage -Install a backup proxy on a VM on every ESX(i) host - Install a backup proxy on any machine in the storage network.
From this am i to assume i need to install a Windows box with an affinity rule for each of our 5 hosts and then deploy the proxy software via the Veeam B&R console?. Or am i missing something and i should be deploying some B&R linux OVF.
Any advice would be great.
Cheers
Julian

Re: Question about Local Storage and Backup Proxies
If your backup server is beefy enough, you can leverage it as single NBD proxy. Though, it might still make sense to have virtual proxies running on the said hosts to speed up the restore process. Thanks.

Re: Question about Local Storage and Backup Proxies
I have added the five appliances and installed the backup proxy software. Started a fresh backup and its almost 6 times better. I set everything to automatic and it appears to use (hotadd) in the job - i dont know if this is an issue or not but so far its flying.

Re: Question about Local Storage and Backup Proxies
For some reason I've thought you were talking about usage of NBD proxy, not Hot Add (virtual appliance) ones. Thus, my suggestion.I have added the five appliances and installed the backup proxy software.
It's not an issue, but rather a note that job uses virtual backup proxy configured in Hot Add (virtual appliance) mode.i dont know if this is an issue or not but so far its flying.
Thanks.
