Question about Veeam Free and Licence of the Esxi

Hello,

client has one Esxi without vmware Licence and would like to use veeam community edition for backup.

Veeam community edition require one Vmware Licence like "essential esxi" for around 500-600€ right?

There is no cheaper alternative right?

That's correct, you cannot protect free ESXi hosts by Veeam B&R CE. Thanks!

The reason for this is the a limitation on the VMware side. If the ESXi has no VMware licenses the backup APIs are not enabled.
You can protect the VMs with our Agents including the free edition.

And to clarify what Andreas said, you can use the agents with the Community Edition allowing you to backup up to 10 VMs by deploying the workstation edition of the agent to those VMs from CE.
