Question on Copy Backup Jobs
Hi group,
Got a quick question on Copy Backup Jobs.
My regular backup is a Reverse Incremental.
How is this handled as far as the Copy Backup is concerned.
With reverse incremental, I always have a good full backup at the main location. I was curious how this worked when copying to location 2.
Thanks.

Re: Question on Copy Backup Jobs
Tom, for backup copy job, it doesn't matter what source backup jobs are set to: forward or reversed incremental mode. Backup copy job synthetically creates restore points in remote location from the changed blocks extracted from the source storage and is always forward incremental.

Re: Question on Copy Backup Jobs
Thanks for that answer.
If the copy backup is forward incremental, how is it able to maintain x number of copy backups without having to create a new full backup?
Thanks.

Re: Question on Copy Backup Jobs
Not sure I understand the question. If you're referring to GFS restore points, then those are stored as separate full VBK files.
I also recommend reviewing the corresponding user guide section for better understanding of the backup copy process. Thanks.

Re: Question on Copy Backup Jobs
Hi, I'm not seeing multiple vbk files at the copy backup location, only a single vbk with multiple vibs.
If my copy backup job is set to only retain 30 copy backups, how is the full backup (the vbk) maintained?
As I look at the date of the vbk, it is current, so I was thinking like the backup in the source location, it is reverse incremental but you have said the copy backup is always forward incremental.
So I'm confused which is the case.

Re: Question on Copy Backup Jobs
Ok, I understand it now.
Is this method the same as synthetic full backup with forward incrementals?
I've always used reverse incrementals in my backups because I like the idea of not having to manage the full backup, even though it takes more resources.

Re: Question on Copy Backup Jobs
It is forever incremental (forward) with transformation of the initial full.
