Remote proxy for read, no repository access?

Post by FireExit »

Hi,

A main site with Veeam B&R, a remote site with a small vCenter.

I deployed a Linux proxy on the remote site for hot-add disk read and using the remote site's resources for compression/dedupe, intending that only compressed data comes back over the WAN link. That failed because the proxy tried to access the repository on the main site to push-write the data and it has no access. The remote site is somebody else's and outbound connections to it can work, but inbound connections from it are blocked. I had to fall back to a proxy on the main site reading NBD over the WAN link.

Is there a way to make that design (pull through a remote proxy) work?

Hello

All required ports are listed in our user guide:
https://helpcenter.veeam.com/docs/backu ... ml?ver=120

A hotadd proxy must be able to mount VM disks from the vSphere datastore and connect directly to the backup repository for transferring the backup data.

Data Flow is:
- vSphere DataStore > Veeam VmWare Proxy > Veeam Backup Repository

Sounds like this is not possible in your network design. In that case your plan will not work.
