Hi,
Does anyone know if I can use backups located on a Dell/EMC Data Domain backup repository as a seed for a replication job?
I have seen a note stating that scale-out backup repositories cannot be used for seeding, so I just want to double check.
Cheers
M

Re: Replica seeding from a Data Domain backup repository?
Hi,
Can you elaborate on infrastructure you have and add more details about the scenario you want to implement?
The Scale-Out Backup Repository cannot be used as target for Replication jobs. Thanks!

Scale out repositories can be used as source for replica from backups.
Replica from backups from a Data Domain based repository will work just fine.

Re: Replica seeding from a Data Domain backup repository?
Hi Dmitry,
It's really no more complicated than wanting to know if you support seeding replicas from a backup repository on a Data Domain device.
I have a couple of DD devices, one in my production site as a Veeam 9.5 repository and one is a spare. I wish to temporarily install the second DD at the production site, amend my backup jobs to include a backup copy job onto the second DD device. Once I have full copies of the VM's I want to move/seed, I will de-configure the backup copy jobs, relocate the second DD device to my new site and re-install (re-IP, etc) and install a new Veeam proxy/gateway for it to use.
I then want to create replica jobs and use the backup repository on the second DD device as the seed repository.
Can I do this or should I just use a 'normal' Windows NTFS repository server for the backup copy jobs?
Thanks
M
