Hello,
I have a question regarding the replica.
A customer of mine wants to set up a DR and move an ESXI host, with qnap storage, to another site and use veeam replicas.
Initially I would replicate on the main site then move the host and storage to the DR site by changing their ip addressing (the DR site has another subnet).
I would start the replication jobs once the backup jobs are finished.
In this scenario, it is advisable to make the replicas through the esxi infrastructure (greater impact on the esxi infrastructure) or to make them from the backup (greater impact on the repository which is a qnap).
What do you recommend?
Thank you
Greetings

Re: replicas from infrastructure or backups?
Hi Simone, both ways are possible. If you do not want double traffic over WAN doing both backup and replication to a remote site, you could utilize replica from backups that are already located on target. If traffic is not a concern, you can test whether the impact on the source ESXi is noticeable during replication (hard to say without knowing your environment) and decide.

Re: replicas from infrastructure or backups?
Hi Foggy,
thanks for your answer.
Maybe I explained myself wrong.
The backup is done on the primary site there are no backups on the secondary site (it is used only for replicas).
Thank you

Re: replicas from infrastructure or backups?
Ah, ok, you mentioned moving the QNAP storage as well so I decided you're going to do remote backups as well. Then seems double traffic is not an issue - you can test both scenarios to compare the impact and estimate jobs performance/possible bottlenecks.
